It is no secret that Dallas / Fort Worth is brimming with artistic talent.   Each artist, dancer, designer and musician adds to the rich tapestry of culture of this city.  The opportunity to sit down with one of them is precious and invaluable.  After all, 100 years from now… kids will be reading about us.  Which is why we were  thrilled when the ever charming Miranda Harper of Emm8 agreed to have coffee with us.  Over an Americano and hot green tea, Miranda treated us to a thought provoking conversation dripping with intelligence, whitty banter, and inspiration.

Miranda Harper as Miranda Harper

We start our interview with a few light hearted questions to get to know the Miranda Harper, behind the designer.

Miranda Harper of Emm8

Envynde – Would you consider yourself a thrill seeker or play by the rules kind of girl?

Miranda - Um… I would say a little bit of both.  I’m very calculated but I do take big risks, but not without thinking about them for a long time.  To give an example: I grew up in Missouri and I had a string of really crappy retail jobs and decided… I hated Missouri.  So I quit my job and packed up all my crap and I moved here.

Envynde - Really now?
Miranda – Yea… I didn’t have anywhere to live and I didn’t have a job.  I thought about it for a long time before I did though.  It’s not like I just woke up one day and thought “I’m going to move today.”  I’ve been here for about 4 years and I like it so far.

Envynde - If aliens landed in front of you and offered anything you desire, what would you want?
Miranda - I would want to take their space ship!  No one has a space ship; I want that!

Envynde - If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be?
Miranda - I would probably… I would trade places with Gaultier.  I want to be inside that man’s brain.

Envynde - So you went to the exhibit then?
Miranda - Oh my gosh yes, I went 3 times.  The First time I almost cried.  It was so good!  You can look at it online but when it’s just inches away from your face…  It’s surreal.

Envynde - If Hollywood made a movie about your life what would it be rated and who would be the star?
Miranda - She doesn’t look anything like me, but my favorite actor is Zooey Deschanel, and we kind of have the same personality.  She might have to dye her hair blonde but she would play me.  And it would not be rated R.  It would be rated maybe… PG13.  So the kids could see it.

Envynde - If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Miranda - Wow!  I don’t know… Crazy White Girl!

Envynde - Do you prefer large Groups or one on one interactions?
Miranda - I think in between.  I could do either.  Because this is really unusual; being interviewed like this.  Usually I prefer one on one with a really cool friend or someone I know or someone who’s really talkative, because normally I don’t talk a lot. And in big groups I like to sit back and listen to other people’s conversations and just, kind of drink my beer.

Envynde - What is your vision of a perfect society?
Miranda - Where we all love each other and dress fabulously.

Envynde - YES!  Where all the ugly clothes are banished and all the bad people are banished with them!?
Miranda - Exactly!  And we will not have crocs.  There will be no crocs in my perfect society!

Envynde – Okay one last question before we get to the nitty gritty.  If you could give Snooki one fashion tip what would it be?

Miranda – Have you seen the fake nails that seen the big wide nails that she wears lately?  I would suggest maybe wearing something
couldn’t scoop food with…  It’s just bad.
