Upon arriving back to the U.S., Tom was bombarded with inquires from several individuals who were interested in purchasing a pair of his vintage Australian sunglasses. After a few phone calls to the Australian surf shop and the original manufacturer, Tom and Michael soon realized the rarity of these sunglasses. Haven’t been produced in over 25 years and closing of the original manufacturer, Tom and Michael decided to utilize their own product design knowledge to breath new life into these forgotten shades.
The Sunski lenses are made from multiple thermally fused polycarbonate layers. The center layer contains a horizontally polarized film to cut glare from reflective surfaces and water. The colored layer contains a bi-gradient-tint film with a variable Visible Light Transmission rating of 12% at the edges and 18% in the center, making them ideal for environments which involve both strong sunlight and strong reflected light—such as on the snow, at the beach or on the water. The flash mirrored layer heightens contrast and blocks 100% of all UVA, UVB and UV400 ultraviolet rays, far surpassing US ANSI Z80.3-2001 regulations. The final layer features a clear and durable scratch-resistant layer to keep them looking great no matter what you throw at them.- Sunski
The frames are made from injection-polycarbonate plastics that are hand-polished and assembled. The construction material is the lightest and most durable available on the market, while the elasticity of the arms provides a universal fit for the wearer’s face. It’s also transparent and neon and awesome. The aluminum composite hinges feature a molded pin that is part of the frame material, preserving flexibility while heightening durability. – Sunski
