There is plenty to love about the latest installment from Melbourne Watch Company, seriously, plenty-to-love. The MWC(Melbourne Watch Company) is set to release its 2nd installment in addition to the Flinders, and I must say The Hawthorn is one sexy timepiece. Equipped with a the essentials; 8205 automatic movement, fully brushed stainless steel case, C3 super-luminova hands, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a tastefully chosen tan leather strap. Although all these features make for a great watch, nothing may be more important than the dial. We all know a man’s watch is a reflection of his personality and the dial is, if not the biggest factor. The Hawthorn dial is absolutely memorizing and begs for for a second glance. The textured dial is an excellent touch and does a beautiful job of complementing the overall watch. There are a few watches on my list this year, and the Melbourne Watch Company’s Hawthorn is one of them.
We wanted to incorporate some dress elements into the Hawthorn so we have designed a multi-layered dial with a “carbon” textured centre and applied stainless steel markers with C3 super-luminova for nighttime illumination. The dial also features a Day/Date complication at 3 o’clock.
Strap – We’ve decided to offer the Hawthorn on a choice of leather (tan, black) or stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet features an “oyster” style flip-lock deployment clasp and solid end links. All straps and bracelets will feature the Melbourne Watch Company logo. The leather strap width is 22mm at the lugs and 20mm at the buckle.
We have selected Miyota again for our choice of movement – the Hawthorn will feature the Cal. 8205 automatic movement with a beat rate of 21,600bph and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours when fully wound. The full specifications for the Cal. 8205 can be found on the Miyota website.
Hands – The Hawthorn features a standard set of hour/minute/sweep second hands. As per our first model we have featured the “M” portion of our logo as the counter-balance to the sweep second hand. The hour and minute hands feature C3 super-luminova for nighttime illumination.
Form Meets FunctionWe really wanted to create a design that would work for both “dressing up” and “dressing down”. We also wanted to ensure that the watch is robust, reliable and suitable for everyday wear.
The Hawthorn will be fitted with flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal, both on top and on the display case back.
To give the Hawthorn a sense of “ruggedness” we have opted for a fully brushed 316L stainless steel case with a diameter of 42mm. The case is 48mm lug to lug and is 12mm thick. The crown is engraved with the Melbourne Watch Company logo. The Hawthorn will also be rated at 100m water resistance
